Punjabi University was came into existence on June 24, 1962 by Punjab Assembly under the Punjab Act No. 35 of 1961. Since 1965 University started working from its present 316 acres campus which is lush green, pollution free. As the 16 km radius having only 9 colleges, university’s jurisdiction area was fixed. Educational needs of Nine Districts of Punjab is catered by university. For the promotion of higher education and research University has evolved into a multi-faceted and multi-faculty educational institution. Then President of India Dr. S. Radhakrishnan laid foundation of Punjabi University. 

• Vision and Mission: Development of Punjabi language as a medium of instruction and examination in various fields of study and to promote Punjabi language, literature, art and culture is vision and mission of Punjabi University, Patiala.

Punjabi University Types of candidates in Ph.D

In Ph.D program three types of candidates shall be admitted

• Full time with scholarship/fellowship
• Full time but without any financial support
• Part time

Punjabi University Guidelines for Written Test

• Duration for written will be two hours and carrying 100 marks.
• Candidate will have to report at least one hour before the commencement of examination.
• Candidate should have to bring with them to the Examination Hall the following documents.
• Admit Card , Voter I Card, Driving License, Aadhaar

Punjabi University Admission Procedure

Candidate will be admitted via two types

Direct Admission: 

• Candidates who want to take admission in Ph.D program should have to clear an Entrnace Test organise by the university. The candidates who have qualified NET/SLET (Punjab State)/GATE/GPAT/UGC-CSIR NET (JRF) examinations are exempted from Entrance Exam. Candidates who are Direct Awardees of Fellowships from Govt. Agencies like INSPIRE/RGNF/MANF/DST/ICMR/ICAR/DBT are also exempted from Entrance Exam. Foreign students sponsored by Government of India agencies are also exempted from Entrance Exam.

Through M. Phil.:

• Candidates who have obtained B+ degree in M.Phil and their admission are made through Entrance Test in M.Phil are exempted from Entrance Test for PhD Admission. However candidates whose admission into M.Phil is not made through Entrance and who have obtained less than B+ Grade have to appear in Entrance Test.
