The Sido Kanhu Murmu University was started on 10 January 1992. The University lactated in DUMKA, JHARKHAND. The Sido Kanhu Murmu University by an act of Bihar Legislative Assembly. The University came under the Government of Jharkhand. The new state of Jharkhand was formed in the year 2000.On May 31, 2007, the University was granted Recognition by the University Grants Commission Under section 12 B of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act,1956.The jurisdiction of the University extends over the six districts of Santhal Pargana where its 13 constituent and 9 permanently affiliated colleges are located.SKMU currently offers UG and PG programs in various streams. At present, SKMU offers B.A. (Hons.), B.Sc. (Hons.), B.A., B.Sc., BLIS, M.A., M.Sc., MCA, M.Com, MBA and Ph.D. courses at UG, PG & Doctorate level. The University Approval by BCI Bar Council of India.

The candidate must either have a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (B. Sc.) or Bachelor in Commerce (B. Com.) from any recognized university with at least 50% marks in aggregate. Also, if the student has completed their postgraduate degree, then minimum 55% marks in aggregate is the criterion.
