Thiruvalluvar University was established in October 2002 by the Government of Tamil Nadu under the Thiruvalluvar University Act, 2002. It was inaugurated on 16-10-2002 as a state public university by the chief Minister SELVI Dr. J. Jayalalithaa. The main campus of the Thiruvalluvar University is located at Serkkadu, Vellore, Tamil Nadu and spreads over an area of 112.68 acres. The university was named after the great Tamil Saint "Thiruvalluvar". The University has 98 Arts and Science affiliated colleges, of which 10 are government colleges, 9 are aided college, 3 are oriental title colleges, 72 are self-financing private colleges and 4 are University constituent colleges. In addition to its affiliated colleges, it also has a Distance Education Institute known as Thiruvalluvar Institution of Distance Education (TIDE). Thiruvalluvar University offers various UG, PG, and Research level courses in different departments such as Tamil, English, Economics, Zoology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Bio-Technology.

The Thiruvalluvar University offers admission to the Full-time, Part-time and Independent Research Scholar Ph.D. programme in different specializations for the academic year 2018-2019. Candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. programme can register themselves by submitting their duly filled in application form along with required processing fees and all important documents to University on or before the 10-09-2018.

Thiruvalluvar University Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria:

• Applicants should possess master’s degree under the faculties of Arts, Science, Fine Arts, Indian and other languages, Management with at least 55% marks or a CGPA of 5.51 and above in the 10.00 point scale from this University or any other university recognized by the Thiruvalluvar University.
• For all SC/ST Category candidates, a relaxation of 5% is provided in minimum required aggregate.
• Applicants having work experience of minimum two years in research projects funded by external agencies such as DST/ DOD/ DOEn / UGC / CSIR and similar national/ international and state level organizations in this University/ research centers/ affiliated colleges are also eligible to apply for Ph.D. Course.

To complete the registration process, the applicant is required to send two copies of their application form.

First Submission: The original application form obtained from the Registrar Office is to be submitted to the research department of the university where you seek admission. In case of the downloaded application form, the application form is to be submitted directly to the university research department along with the photocopy of the Bank Challan for Rs. 200/- towards the cost of application form.

Second Submission: The photocopy of the original application or downloaded application is to be directly sent to the University along with all required documents and original Bank Challan for Rs. 200/- towards the cost of application form.

Thiruvalluvar University Ph.D. Selection Process:

The candidates will be selected on the basis of their marks secured in the Entrance test and Interview. If candidates have qualified UGC/CSIR (JRF) Examination NET/SLET/GATE, then they will be exempted from the Entrance Test but they should undertake the Interview.

Thiruvalluvar University Ph.D. Reservation Criteria:

• For General Category or Open category Candidates: 31%
• For Backward Classes including 3.5% for Muslims: 30%
• For Most Backward Classes and De-notified Communities: 20%
• For Scheduled Caste including 3% for Arunthathiyars and 1% for Scheduled Tribes (ST): 19%
